​Fish and chips will sizzle as a play is enacted in Stix, which houses a popular fast food outlet, an amusement arcade and snooker hall.
As part of the city’s UnFringed 2008 festival, Impact Theatre Company have decided to perform Problem Child in the chipper on Nicholas Street from February 19 to 23.
​Problem Child, by award-winning Canadian playwright George F Walker, is the story of a young mother who has been declared unfit to care for her baby girl. Getting her daughter back legitimately requires the favourable judgment of a social worker.
Her husband, being a reformed ex-con who is addicted to TV talk shows, does not provide much help or support, and her only ally is the alcoholic ne’er-do-well who cleans the bathrooms of their motel room.
The play is directed by Jeff Culbert from Ontario, Canada, and it is performed by Myles Breen, Norma Lowney, Niamh Bowen and Brendan Hickey. 
Impact Theatre Company was established in 1996 and produced its first play, No Way Out in spring 1997. Plays it has since produced include work by Sartre, Beckett, Checkov, Millar, Stephen King, Dario Fo, Aristophanes, Ray Bradbury, Harold Pinter and Jean Genet. The company also supports new Irish writing and has staged plays by Patricia McHale and Darren Maher. Further information on Unfringed events and tickets is available at the Belltable arts centre on 061-319866.]]>
